I think this is the right section, its about my body and links to mind too!
Anyways, so I am 18 in 2 weeks tomorrow!
I was thinking about my first tattoo, I want one on my wrist, something to symbolise my struggle with self harm, I was wondering to tatoos turn out ok of scars??
The scars aren't like terrible they are more silver and only a couple which are raised.
Thanks!

I wouldn't advice it coz the wrist hurts enough when your havin it done as it is sooo with scars it should be more :S
Havin said that I want a tatoo on my wrist too but I'm only 12. Anyway, sorry you struggle with self harm x

I suggest you to consult with a tattoo artist - they must know it. The tatto may hurt more or won't appear nice on scars, but if they are small ones they could give you a try.
Don't you think on something in context with your self harm but not on your wrist? You should find something if you talk about it with a good tatto artist.

I saw a girl on Miami ink that had self harmed before get a tattoo over her scars. I'm not an expert though. Talk to the tattoo artist, they should know.
Congrats for beating it, it couldn't have been easy.
Well happy Birthday and good luck with the tattoo

XxMegan1997xx - I know it will hurt thats not what I am worried about, I am thinking more about how the ink will take ect.
Borsika - Well I would probably do that anyway when I booked just to make sure but I wanted to ask people on here before I set my heart on it.
I liked the idea of it being on my because it will make my scars look less ugly and I dnno I just like the idea of it being there
I would probably get something quite simple cause I think if it was more complicated and coloured ect it might not turn out so well!

If the scar is fully healed and its been at least one year since the scar was healed then it should be fine. I have tattoos on both my wrists and scars on both also. On my left arm I have stars representing the people I care about the most and if I ever cut again I would in a sense be cutting and hurting them too. On my right arm I have a quote right on top of a scar to cover it. They both cover the scars without any problems. It would be best to talk to your tattoo artist before you get them done though.

I saw an article a while back
it was about an anorexic self harmer
anyway he tatooed over his scars and they looked good. although they were on upper parts of his arms
I don't know if it helps

I think it depends on if its raised or not.
I think they can go over old scars that aren't too bad. Your best bet is to ask. I've never considered tattooing over scars, I feel it'll attract more attention to something I'm trying to not remind myself of. I admire your (and captainfruitloop's) sentiment though.
Ummm I don't think getting a tattoo on the wrist hurts much, then again it was my fourth tattoo when I got it done.
Good luck! Tattoo's are personal, and I hope you get what you want. Oh, and happy birthday!

i had a friend with very extensive scarring from skin grafting after he survived 3rd degree burns over 70% of his body. he tattooed over a lot on his arms and legs and it turned out nicely, but textured of course because of the diamond-shape grid of the grafts

Thats so beautiful!
Thanks everyone!
I will speak to a tattoo artist about it! I would take my mum with me too! She has tattoos and would make sure the guy was a good tattoo artist!

I will!
I want something that represents freedom and/or life.
I don't want it to be corny and I want it to be pretty!
Maybe something like this, but I might ask my mum to design it for me!
Lol was that in case he forgot or something?

Aww, good luck!
Think it will go very smoothly, but talk to your tattoo artist, like the others said. I'm sorry for your self-harm problems! Good idea to have something that stays with you forever to remind you to never sink that low again. ^^
Could have tried something like that.. I have it on my upper arm. What should I do? A heart in the middle of my arm, (totally in the wrong place for a tattoo, except if it covers the whole overarm) to symbolize my love-me obsessions? No, no, no... *le sigh*
Ah, also have one in the middle of my underarms on both. Deep scars.. don't know if it would be smart to cover up. o_O
Think of a symbol I've designed, though. Four 1's, made into a star-like symbol, with the spades, hearts, diamond and clubs symbol in it. Is for my path in life. Will every symbol with ink as I complete them. That way, I will never forget why I've risked everything, and will always be reminded not to mess up. Could try and draw it? XD

i would advise you not to tattoo yourself on the wrists. it`s a part of the body that`s always showing and i can`t imagine someone having a respectable job and being tattooed on their wrists. better wear a watch on one hand and a bracelet on the other and hide them, don`t make them show even more.
remember your skin may look good now when you are young but a tattoo is forever so imagine your hands wrinkly at 50 years old. do they still look good with tattoos? not to me they don`t.

That's what I like about planning to go into an art career... they don't care if your tattoos or piercings are showing. It's almost like they're required.
"omg! Tattoos?! Ridiculous amounts of piercings?! You're hired!!"

Like the others said, you're going to have to talk to the artist. It depends on the type of scarring it is and the design. When I went to get my first tattoo (on my wrist) I asked the artist about a tattoo over the large scars I have on my upper arm from a dog attack as a child. With mine, the biggest scar couldn't be, but the smaller ones could. This is a scar that's over 10 years old, so the age of the scar doesn't make too much of a difference. (Unless it's brand new, of course)
Good luck and I hope to see pics!

My mom is 56, has tons of beautiful tattoos and piercings all over, and is a geriatric nurse. I would say that's respectable. ^_^

Tattoos are pretty common on wrists. Thats where most people get them, at least women. I think its fine, plus you can cover it up with makeup. Dermablend is the best makeup to cover up things on your body, especially tattoos. So id say go for it. And it's really depends how bad the scar is, and I'm sure yours arent that bad.
