I'm the same way!! Surprisingly it's a method of reading, I think called absorption and it is how life-long readers come to be. I'm so attached to the characters I read about.

I have also had this experience! Sometimes I am so into a book that I go away and come back and think I was watching television! Honestly I've gone to the bathroom, come back and thought to myself why is the tv off, then I remember I was reading fou rire

I started a new book today April in Paris - a random one I found in my house, it hasn't totally captivated me just yet.

Great topic! No matter where I am I always have a book in my purse or tote bag. Thought I would give a few recommendations that I haven’t seen listed yet.

If you love animals: When Elephants Weep by Masson and McCarthy and Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls.

Humorous contemporary romance with a country/redneck twist: anything by LuAnn McLane. Great light reading and funny.

If you’re into paranormal romance or vampires: anything by Laurell K. Hamilton. Definitely adults only!

And has anyone read The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch and Jeffrey Zaslow? I just saw his interviews and am thinking about buying the book. Anyone recommend it? Thanks!

Ω - I'm going to post a non-recommendation: Catcher in the Rye. I just didn;t enjoy it. I realize it's a classic and that it was groundbreaking in its day, but it just didn't speak to me. I just couldn't feel for Holden, the wealthy emo kid, and it just seemed like Salinger was trying to hard to sound like a teenager (I was getting sick of the expressions "...and all" and "what I did was..."). Just my $.02, as I'm sure there are others who would recommend it.

Val: I think I have to agree with you. I had a really hard time getting through it. The last time I tried to read it was in high school, but I just remember wanting to throw it away and never see it again. I don't know if I would feel different about it now or not...
