Potatoes are the good kind of carbs, what are you talking about? They're only bad once so deeply fried that they don't even taste potato-y, any more.

Ohhh how I wish .... *sigh* potatoes and me.... I love them so......
They're a pretty starchy carb for a carbo though.... I know personally I can't just have a little scoop, I always have a ton of potato! I try to go for veggies and a multigrain bread instead, but I'm doing so well in the diet department lately (though I swear, I'm doing even better than I was a month ago, running often, and I'm wondering how on earth I'm GAINING weight? Argh.) so I probably shouldn't be talking.
Gord, potato memories...
My favorite potato is garlic mashed, followed closely by fried...

To answer the yogurt question: Plain yogurt by itself is one of those white foods I can't eat. But if it's flavored yogurt (blueberry pomegranate is the best!) then it's usually ok, unless it's vanilla. I do add plain yogurt to my curries and kormas as the recipe calls for, but I prefer curries that don't use it because when I'm eating the leftovers I feel like they just get too heavy with all of that yogurt and cream after a while.
Hm, it just occurred to me that maybe you don't mean yogurt as an ingredient, but as a raita on the side that you add while you're eating? I hate raitas..... I made a roasted onion raita once and it was the best one I've ever had, and I still couldn't eat very much of it. White and creamy, sigh.
My only exceptions are ice cream and tahini and tzatiki sauce.

I mix my veggies in with my potatoes. It generally goes well, especially corn and peas. >.<
Have you had your hormones tested to see if the weight gain is affected? Even if you're on hormones like the pill, it doesn't mean your system is well-regulated. I've been eating like a pregnant lady the last couple days, so of course I'm gonna gain weight. XD But, usually, I maintain at 1200-1400 calories a day. D;

Actually, for along time when I was a kid they thought I was diabetic. Later they thought I had to have a thyroid problem. Nothing was wrong with either of those......(granted I didn't have the weight gain symptoms but all the others so...) I shudder to go to the doctor yet AGAIN for it because health care and my family don't mix well (a hospital bill for $500 is considered an extravagance; a 2 week summer camp that costs more than one year of my college tuition for singing and acting is considered a necessity). If it is still like this when I have my job *fingers crossed fingers crossed* you bet your butt I'm going to see a doctor though. Yuck.
Mini--lol, i luv how icecream is the exception------OH DEAR I HAD THE WORST ICE CREAM AT HAGEN DAAS THE OTHER DAY. I usually am kind of ambivalent about their cream (its okay but it isn't like, THE BEST), but I had some because I had an interview with a different company and wanted something to lift my spirits for the long and boring car ride home in bad traffic. WORST. EVER. Tasted freezerburned and dry! Ice cream from a little ice cream store should not be freezerburned and dry! And a popular flavor like cookie dough no less!!!
Yuck!
A new side note--bought a bunch of baby 'bellas (they were on sale) and now I have no idea what to do with them! I never get bellas cuz they are 'spensive in my area (but these cost less than the buttons this week, ***?) so I have no idea what they go best with. And I want them at their peak....
Any ideas?

I don't really like mushrooms, so I doubt I'd be much help. A risotto might be good though- it's a good day for it here, all cold and rainy. Not that I'm obsessed with risotto or anything though. Or just saute them simply with some herbs and serve with toast or polenta. Like I said though, I don't really "do" mushrooms, so hopefully someone will have better ideas.
Online

hmmm, what if you made an amuse bouche and stuffed them or something?

i'm honestly considering doing the standard 'saute with onions and garlic and slather with cheese" thing....... ;-; what a waste of a bella!
Dahly--oohhhhh you are giving me such seeeexyyy kitchen ideas.... you said two of my favorite words <3!!!
Piaqua--Lol, I didn't "do" mushrooms(still have trouble choking them down raw) until I started eating miso soup almost daily for a while there. Got me really into almost-raw onions and mushies. no idea how or why but it did.
Now i am a mushie fiend. ;-; and they are expensive little buggers for the good stuff too! Darnit!
One kitchen habit I could have done without...

My only recipes that involve mushrooms are beef bourguignonne and coq au vin, how sad is that, lol. Even then, I have to pick around them.
An amuse-bouche sounds nice, now if only I knew what paired well with mushrooms. Spinach and a nice sharp/salty cheese maybe? I'm no good at this... to me mushrooms taste like mushy dirt!

Page four? PAGE FOUR? Oh dear, I MUST FIND SOMETHING TO SAY! XD
but but... beef bourguignonne (I can never spell that) and coq au vin are so gooood..... ;-; though I find mushies in those get a little slimy and I pick them out too!
Best sliced suuuuuper thin and plunked in at the very end in soups, or fried up or baked... that's my thought.....
So I had a terribly bizarre dream this morning about a cafe called "Cute Wok". I still don't know how I feel about this....

I just saute the mushies near the end and add them in with like 5 minutes left, like what you do with soups. They don't get slimy that way
Not that it would matter to me, but for the people who like shrooms, it's appreciated.

Mm, suggestions for risotto gave me an idea.... little risotto cakes. Like crab cakes, but with risotto. You'd have to use a lot less liquid, just to get them to the consistency where they stick together... maybe use a little egg too, and then fry them lightly. That sounds so good right now! I'll be trying to play around with that idea. I'll let you know what my results are.

You guys are full of fancy. >3<!!!
Piaqua--I will use that idea!!!!
Oh! I must ask!
Everyone, what is your favorite late night snack?
And are people still interested in running a food contest? I've got an idea.... (I also kind of want to run a "chef outfit" contest in the contest section, but I Think that's just because I have been doing nothing but cooking and reading lately lol)

Oh, I bet that would be really good. Molto Mario (Mario Batali's show which is now on the Fine Living Network, but used to be on the Food Network) had something like that, where he used leftover risotto and put a ragu type filling inside and made a ball of it, and then pan fried them. It looked so good, I bet just plain risotto cakes would be awesome too! I think it might actually be better if you used leftover risotto rather than stuff made right at the moment. That way it would be a little more sticky and easier to form cakes.
Namaine- I don't really have a favorite late night snack. I'm kind of night owl and have mostly afternoon classes, so I tend to stay up really late. Therefore I eat almost dinner-like meals really late, so just about everything would fall into that category.
What kind of food contest do you mean?
Online

Oh! In our old thread, we had suggested a food contest!!!
So far nothing was too concrete. Concepts were like.... everyone would make the same recipe with minor variations (and take pictures), invent a recipe, make other people's recipes & give opinions, that kind of thing.
Something involving lots of pictures and delicious new recipes!!!! *O*
nothing as complicated as the monthly cake competition some bloggers have going on, but something fun and still all... awesomelike. *+*
yes I'm being clear. <_<

I get tested for diabetes so regularly, it isn't even funny. I'm glad I have insurance. Every time I see a new doctor for whatever reason, and they find I have sugar in my urine (which I've been doing since I was born), they decide to test me. x___x
I have PCOS causing a large waist, too. Which gives them further proof that I must have the unhealthy diet typical of a Type II patient. =/
I hate mushrooms. XP I will never ever cook with them. Most recipes, they can be left out and cream of mushroom is easily replaced with cream of chicken.

: / I am so sorry, that sounds really annoying.
OH OH OH, CREAM OFS.
I couldn't use Cream Of anything for a year (I kept PseudoKosher with a roommate--Dahly, you remember her, right?
BTW her bimbo died and she refuses to go on the site now, so whoever was asking for the tamale recipe will never get it...), and I... love... the Cream Of.
Cream of Mushie. Cream of Chicky. Cream of Creamy. Its sooohooooo not like, I dunno, classy, (and it will NEVER be kosher) but I love it in slow cooker meals over delicious delicious Fowl Meats.

You kidding me, you mix veggies, chicken, water, and cream of chicken into a slow cooker crock pot for a few hours?
I also make a tuna casserole with cream of chicken and cream of celery. And my father makes a delish chicken dish called Chicken Viva with cream of chicken and cream of celery.
Canned soups make a great base for so many recipes.

No, no. I probably shouldn't have put a question mark at the end. D; It's just a cream chicken soup, kinda like chicken and dumplings without the dumplings.
You don't need skills to cook as long as you enjoy what you can make. It'd be a problem if you only knew how to make something like top ramen and were sick of it (my sister XD).

Oh, but chicken and dumplings is good too! And so is chicken noodle soup, and...
nawww, for me its sort of an emotional thing at this point. Years and years ago (you were on the other thread so I'm going to say it in the grand Talking Too Much TMI Nemmy Tradition of Postings) when my mom looked like she was going to be healthy she started on a crock pot kick, and that's what she made. It was every single night, of course, for about a month, literally no variation whatsoever, but its the only time in recent memory she's cooked for more than one night a month and the only time she really seemed happy.
So I sort of see it as happy food. *embarrassed laugh* lol.

Lol. It's rare that my mother cooks, as well. Apparently, she used to cook all the time before she got preggers with my sister and I. We caused her to become nauseated at the idea of food, so Dad took over. So it's also rare my mother cooks. And when she does, it's usually taquitos or sopa (tomato-based noodle soup). Since it's a rare treat, I also look forward to them.
My mother does some of the fad diets, too. So I got subjected to Atkin's bread a while back (ugh).
I don't have a happy/comfort food. Closest thing is anything high in carbs (esp. potatoes and pastas XD). But funny thing is, for me, healthier food can taste better. Whole wheat or spinach pastas have so much more flavor than processed macaroni product. >.<

Hey Cryzilla, as someone who lives fairly near the border I have a recipe request for you. Do you have a recipe for posole/pozole, or know anyone who does? I used to have it every time I would go to mexico (particularly the green on on thursdays) and I can't find it anywhere here.
