I´m a smoker too.. although I smoke mostly between 1 - 6 fags a day which I think is not to much. It´s just to unhealthy. I once stopped for three weeks but got back to it.. my main problem is its a social thing not sooo mutch the urge for a fag. After work or visiting a friend etc, chatting and so on...
Well I know it is not good to not stop now however I WILL stopp when i am pregnant. I think as well it damages the health of the unborn baby.

Well and about drinking.. I rarly drink so I won´t have a problem not doing that for a longer while... I can not even remeber when exactly I had my last drink.. a few month back I think... ok one big reason is that my partner is teatoal (although he is Scottish - sorry to all Scots but this country has an alcohol problem  - in my opinion at least)

One to six?I smoke around 20 plus per day

Re: The official ''stop smoking'' support thread

chaizka!!! you smoke???? quit that! bad habit!

---

TO STOP SMOKING, YOU MUST HAVE A MOTIVATING FACTOR TO HELP YOU GET THE HABIT OUT OF YOUR SYSTEM. THAT'S WHAT I DID.

last few years were depressing for me, and i resorted to marlboro lights menthol for calming down my senses... BAD IDEA...

i was from 1 stick a day to 1 pack per day... last december, i had this terrible cough that went to losing my voice LITERALLY for a month... there was no sound... i had difficulty talking... my throat ached badly and my breath was foul...

God gave me a beautiful voice (runs in the family... not to boast) and i cant even carry a tune... until now, i have difficulty singing... i couldnt reach my barbra songs anymore... sigh....

so that became my motivation... i loved singing more than i loved smoking... so i forced myself out of it... i said, one stick not smoked --- one day  MY VOICE WILL COME BACK TO WHAT IT WAS... LOVELY AND CHARISMATIC.. i kept repeating that over and over and over again...

after 2 months of not smoking, i sang again.. but it wasnt the same... (uploaded my songs in imeem) in my heart, i know, it will come back... it's been almost a year... so slow.... but im sticking to my plan of getting my voice back. NO THANKS TO SMOKING...

i stopped smoking... went cold turkey.. but it was worth it.....

Re: The official ''stop smoking'' support thread

The book "The only way to stop smoking" by Allen Carr was a (literal?) lifesaver for me. If you can afford to buy any book, get that one - he was a 60-a-day smoker and quit cold turkey, so he has a huge advantage over the (annoying) non-smokers who try to tell us how to quit smile
Honestly, the first week or so I quit, I would occasionally be getting through 5 minutes at a time by using the "I'll wait 5 minutes then go buy some" technique (kept putting myself off until I HAD to sleep)
The biggest problem I had was with insomnia, for some reason after I quit I just couldn't sleep until I got to the point where I would fall over from tiredness....

Re: The official ''stop smoking'' support thread

I own 3 books on quitting quit smoking now how to quit in 3 days sleep while you quit they're NOT working!!!

i always smoke outside becos i have 2 liluns my daughter is 2 and my son is 10mths i quit when i found out i was pregnant with my daughter i only started again recently

i must have some sort of psycosis as to why i started again i used to only smoke while theyre asleep cos they both sleep through the night now my daughter has never seen me smoke before and id like to keep it that way but its getting harder bcos im now so addicted and ive only started again about 2mths ago if my son is asleep i have a quick puff while my daughter is watching cartoons then i have to change my clothes wash my hands and face rinse my mouth out so they dont smell it on me

my girl shes pretty independent but its like she knows im hanging out for a cigarette so she follows me around until i give her some stickers i look at their little faces and think i NEED to quit but its very trying UGH im frustrated at myself for starting again!

Just popping in to say I'm on day three, and it's going really well.

No more rage, and only ONE instance of OMG-I-need-a-cigarette-NOW a day. I've resorted to nicotine gum, but I've only had a few, when the nicotine hunger gets too bad.

Hey wannabe non-smokers, I will second that about the Allen Carr book - the one I have is 'Easy way to stop smoking' it is certainly worth buying (less money on Ebay or Amazon than a packet of ciggies.)

I stopped for three months and apart from tiredness and a couple of weeks of feeling naff, I had no probs.  I started again though, after the death of a close friend - more an excuse really than a reason.......

So if you are all going to go for it, so shall I.  I'll read the book again and post some insights.

All the best to you all.....  she says chuffing away on 40 a day...... until next week.

Think we could get the banner to link to here? Also, what about we have a bit of a compitition with this? people get points for each day not smoking, points taken off for having a smoke? Anyone want to collaberate on this?

Re: The official ''stop smoking'' support thread

Lol I quit at the first of July, that was the moment a law became effective; we where no longer allowed to smoke in café's, pubs, bars, restaurants etc. so no more sigarettes when going out Y_Y So yeah, I just said to myself; now's a good time to quit, and up until today I'm doing just fine ^^

Get a really bad cold.  I have had one for over a week now, have emptied the nation's supply of paracetamol and cough mixture, and the last thing in the world I want to do right now is smoke as it makes it worse (I was on about 20 per day)

have deleted my account peeps, this game just isn't for me.  So long and farewell, enjoy your bimboing!!!

Re: The official ''stop smoking'' support thread

I quit smoking a month ago using the patch.  So far it has been going ok.  But my husband still smokes so that makes it so hard to stick with the program.  But so far I have been a good girl and not cheated.  One thing that has helped is that we never smoked in the house.  If we wanted a cig, then we had to go out.

I'm not sure what'ca mean about having the banner linking to here do ya mean like the banner having a link page?

Oh and I love the points system maybe we could have like little badges or chips that we could put in or signatures kinda like what they give out a AA meetings! I also think that members list is a great idea too!

sourire Good For You!! Lots and Lots of deep slow breaths help and I don't know if you've enrolled into a delivery class yet or not but the Bradley delivery method
http://www.mjbovo.com/Pregnancy/LDPrep.htm
Teaches really good breathing exercises which I found much more helpful than the he he he ho ho crap Bradley  is more deep slow meditative breathing Which I’ve been doing TONS of as of late! I look kinda silly and people have been asking me what’s wrong and I just hold my two fingers up in the smoking position but it’s passes rather quickly now and I only have “the urge† about 5 times a day now but considering I used to smoke about a pack a day I’d say that’s pretty dang good!

Oh Mat! My heart truly goes out to you! I’m sure tears have been shed over this discussion as well…All I can say is that it’s not that your father doesn’t love you! It’s that these wicked cancer sticks are dang addicting I’m sure your father sees the pain within your eyes as you plead with him to quit. But when you get down to the plain and simple truth it has to be HIS choice he has to want to quit for him self for his own reasons and on his own time no one can make anyone quit no matter how many pamphlets or little gag gift coughing ash trays you give him in fact often times the more you harasses a smoker about quitting the more guilty they feel the more guilty they feel the more stress they have the more stress usually equals more smoking…
I know it sucks and perhaps this is just me talking outta my butt who knows!! Perhaps what you could do is sit down one night take your time and write a letter to your father about how much you love him and how much you cherish him and how you want him to be around for you and your children one day and to be healthy enough to be able to run around with them and play with them and that your afraid that if he continues smoking he may not be able to do that…but here comes the hard part after the letter is done being read don’t bring it up again (and state that you won’t in the letter as well) just let it be if it’s written well enough it will make a large enough of an impact that it will either touch him or it won’t ( chances are it will ) but it’s not up to you it’s up to him it’s his battle not yours but let him know that if he needs a comrade he’s got one.
